Sunshine Girls home after winning record 12th AFNA Caribbean Championship

Jamaica’s victorious Sunshine Girls are now back in the island having returned from Trinidad where they won the AFNA Caribbean Netball Championship for a record 12th time.

The Jamaicans claimed the title after brushing aside outgoing champions and tournament hosts Trinidad and Tobago 60-40 in the final match of the series on Saturday.

Ace goal-shooter Jhaniele Fowler led the way scoring a game high 40 goals from 44 attempts, while Anna-Kay Griffiths who was named the Most Valuable Player of the game, netted 20 from 27.

The Sunshine Girls who were the only team to go unbeaten at the tournament after winning all 8 games, had previously beaten St. Lucia, Grenada, Guyana, Barbados, United States, Bermuda and Canada.

The team finished with tournament high 619 goals with 203 against.

Barbados in the meantime finished second with 7 wins and a loss after beating St. Lucia 54-28 in their final game.

The Trinis claimed third with 6 wins and two losses.
