Stars of the East secure Elite Group berth, Portmore's lead reducedPosted: April 2, 2012
Former champions Harbour View have claimed the last available spot in top six group of the Red Sripe National Premier League.
This after registering a 2-1 win on the road against Sporting Central Academy at Brancourt in Sunday’s final set of matches in the third and penultimate round.
The Stars of The East had been involved in a four-team battle to finish among the top six and claimed the coveted spot after Jeremy Lynch scored in stoppage time to seal the result that saw them move to 46 points.
Fabian Taylor had earlier given the visitors a 10th minute lead before François Swaby equalized for Sporting Central in the 53rd minute.
Harbour View’s win means Montego Bay United just missed out on securing a spot in the Elite Group.
The Second End of Round champions who needed a Harbour View loss or draw, visited the Anthony Spaulding Complex and battled to a 2-1 win over Arnett Gardens to move to 7th on 44 points.
Elsewhere top of the table Portmore United saw their lead reduced to 10 points after playing to a 2-2 draw with bottom of the table and relegation bound Village United at the Elliston Wakeland Centre in Falmouth.
Portmore with the result inched to 64 points and closer to the title with only five games remaining while Village inched to 25 points and closer to relegation.
In the other games, Boys Town edged Highgate United 1-0, it was 1-1 between Waterhouse and Humble Lion, while Reno and defending champions Tivoli Gardens played to a scoreless draw.
The Elite Group comprises Portmore, Boys Town, Waterhouse, Humble Lion, Tivoli Gardens and Harbour View.
The Relegation Group includes Montego Bay United, Arnett Gardens, Sporting Central, Highgate, Reno and Village United.
