Energy Minister says he has contacted JPS about power outages across the island last night
Energy Minister Daryl Vaz says he has contacted the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) about power outages across the island last night.
In a post on X last night, Mr. Vaz said that he received several reports of outages, which he has shared with
JPS to address immediately.
The outages follow an islandwide blackout on Friday night, which left JPS customers in darkness for hours.
Full power was restored on Saturday, with JPS noting that it is investigating the cause of the blackout.
According to President and Chief Executive Officer of JPS Hugh Grant, there was significant lightning activity recorded in the corporate area, around the time of the disruption, particularly in the vicinity of several major generating stations, transmission facilities and substations.
JPS was expected to provide a report to the Office of Utilities Regulation yesterday on Friday’s islandwide blackout.
