Marlon  Samuels  produced  his  third  test  century to  spearhead   a  West  Indies  fight back  on  the  opening  day  of  the  second  test  against  England  at  Trent  Bridge.

Samuels  was  unbeaten  on  107  at  the  close  of  play  sharing  in  an  unbroken  7th  wicket  partnership  of  168  with  captain  Darren  Sammy  who  is  not  out  on  a career  best   88.

This  as  the  West  Indies  recovered  from  63  for  4  to  close  the  day  on  304  for  6.

Their stand was the highest seventh-wicket partnership for West Indies against England and in Tests at Trent Bridge, surpassing the achievement of Collie Smith and John Goddard in 1957 - another alliance between a captain and a Jamaican. There are no better statistics than those that connect the generations so neatly.

Samuels  had  earlier  shared  in  a   5th  wicket  partnership  of  62   with  Shivnarine  Chanderpaul   who  hit  46.

Earlier  Adrian  Barath  fell  for  0,  Kieron  Powell  33, Kirk Edwards  7,   Darren  Bravo  3 and  Dinesh Ramdhin  for  1.

James Anderson ended  the  day  with  2  for  58, Stuart   Broad   grabbed  2  for  59, Tim  Bresnan  1  for  83  and  Graeme  Swann  1  for  62.

About IRIE FM

The station officially went on air on August 1, 1990. Reggae in the morning, Reggae in the evening, Reggae in the night was the cry. Critics said it was impossible to sustain a 24-hour Reggae music station. In fact, so strong was the impact, it proved that this format was something the Jamaican public yearned for. The 'little station that could' got all media houses in Jamaica to stand up and take note.
