Jamaica hammer Costa Rica to open at Centro Basketball Championship
Jamaica’s national men’s basketball team have gotten off to an emphatic start at the 2012 Centro Basketball tournament in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
This after registering a crushing 91-61 win in their opening game of the tournament against group ‘a’ rivals Costa Rica on Monday.
Weyinmi Rose was the leading performer with 18 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals.
He received help from former Muschett High player Samardo Samuels who compiled 14 points and 8 rebounds and Dylan Ennis-Howell who had 16 points.
Kimani Ffriend also had a good game notching 11 points and 7 rebounds.
The Jamaicans who are seeking improve on their 5th place from the 2010 tournament will return to action tomorrow against the U.S Virgin Islands before facing the Dominican Republic on Wednesday and Mexico on Thursday.
The top four teams will earn a spot at the 2013 FIBA Americas Championships.
