Clean sweep: Bolt, Blake & Weir lead Jamaica 1-2-3 in 200m
Usain Bolt created history when he became the first man to win the 200 metres title two consecutive Olympic Games when he landed the event in a season best 19.32 seconds, with 100 metres silver medallist Yohan Blake capturing silver in 19.44 seconds, also a season best and his Racers Track Club teammate Warren Weir completing the sweep, finishing third in a personal best 19.84 seconds.
The feat achieved by the three Jamaicans resulted in wild celebrations erupting across the island and also in London.
The sweep in the 200 metres final improved Jamaica’s medal tally by 50 percent moving it from 6 to 9 with equal sharing three gold, three silver and three bronze.
Meanwhile, just before the men’s 200 final the team of Samantha Henry-Robinson, Sherone Simpson, Schilone Calvert and Kerron Stewart propelled Jamaica into the final of the 4 by 100 metres relay.
There however was a major disappointment in the first round of the men's 4x400 metres when national 400m record holder Jermaine Gonzales failed to complete the third leg of the event for Jamaica to crash out of the event.
