Borrego to lead Thunderbirds against Swifts in ANZ Netball Championship
Jamaican Carla Borrego and her Adelaide Thunderbirds team are now gearing up meet the NSW Swifts in the opening match of the 2012 ANZ Netball Championship.
The match which takes place on Saturday at Etsa Park in Adelaide is a repeat of last season’s opener during which the Thunderbirds suffered a 20-point defeat to the Swifts.
Borrego who led Adelaide to the title in 2010, finished last season as the 6th leading scorer with 409 goals.
The Thunderbirds were however unable to defend their title and failed to cement a spot in the playoffs for the first time since the tournament’s inception in 2008.
Romelda Aiken, the other Jamaican playing in the tournament, will line up for defending champion Queensland Firebirds against the Melbourne Vixens on Sunday.
Aiken a former two-time MVP, led the league in both scoring and rebounding while helping the Firebirds become the first team to go through an entire season undefeated.
