Australia beat Windies in first T20 International

The  touring Australian cricketers have taken a  1-0  lead  in the  two  match  Digicel Twenty20  International Series when they carved out an 8 wickets win  over  the West Indies in game one  at  the Beausejour Stadium in St. Lucia.

This despite a swashbuckling unbeaten half-century knock of 54 from the hard-hitting Kieron Pollard.

The Trinidadian slammed 2 fours and five sixes while facing 26 balls while Johnson Charles and Nkrumah Bonner got 24 each to power the Windies to 150 for 7 from their 20 overs.

Dan Christian was the most successful bowler for the Aussies with 3 for 27,while  Brett Lee picked up 2 for 30.

The Aussies in reply got off to a disastrous start losing David Warner without a run on the board.

However Man of the Match Shane Watson and Mike Hussey produced a century second wicket stand to guide the Aussies home at 153 for 2 with 11 balls to spare.

Watson hit 69 from 43 balls and Hussey was left unbeaten on 59 from 45 balls.

Meanwhile Jamaican all-rounder Andre Russell has been ruled out of the T20 series because of injury.

Russell is said to have played through the pain barrier in the recent One Day International Series which ended level 2-2.

No replacement player was named for today’s game.

The squad for the second T20 international in Barbados on Friday will be named on Wednesday.
