A who tek Sting?
The lyrical battle was left unfinished after the Gullyside deejay left the Teacha on the stage who blurted out “Barber Bwoy Whey Yuh Ago”.
In the first segment Kartel was solid, as he free styled some tight rhymes and got a string of forwards. Mavado on the other hand was a little flustered during his free styling as he stuttered a few times. The tables were later turned when Kartel started deejaying about Mavado’s mother. The Gullyside deejay subsequently delved into his barrage of hits and got some forwards.
The audience could somewhat be described as fair as they were not hesitant to boo the two entertainers when they were not performing up to par.
While both Vybz Kartel and Mavado got their forwards, it was the Gullyside deejay who left the stage in his glory while Kartel remained. This however constituted to what many are calling an unfinished battle.
Sting also had some surprising and entertaining elements. Entertainers who were expected to rise to the occasion fell flat on the faces. The war lord Bounty Killa will soon have hang up his boots and make way for new talent. The Killa came to Sting, failed to raise the bar and got stung with a chorus of boos. Aidonia who started on a high was also booed. Monster Hemp Higher got booed as well and Round-Head later tried to clear his name about borrowing Bounty’s rims and was again booed.
Kip Rich was the surprise of the night. The deejay was certainly in a militant mood, as he threw punches left right and center, tearing Monster Hemp Higher to pieces.
Black Rhino was also a surprise. He delivered a short but spice set as he inflicted lyric wounds to his rivals and entertained the ladies.
Flip Mafia all decked out in Gucci, lived up to his flossing and hype lifestyle. He showed the crowd he’s really the flossing king, pouring top shelf liquor all over the stage and tossing money both Jamaican and US currencies in the crowd.
Merciless exceeded expectations and delivered a fiery and witty performance. At several intervals he invited artistes on stage, chanting, “from Bounty to Ninja to David or Addi come pon stage mek mi kill smaddi”. Merciless later left the stage and complained that the battle field wasn’t crowed enough.
As for Zebra he could have saved himself if he had exited the stage earlier but the Right Type a Love deejay overstayed his welcome.
Despite Beenie Man's played out set, he did what was expected and more. The doctor also surprised the audience when he hinted that he’s supporting the “Gaza”.
All in all, Sting got a massive turn out and despite the tearing down of the fence which separated the VIP and the general area and a few pick pockets that caused patrons to run back and forth, there were no reported incidents.
The curtains for Sting 2k8 closed at minutes after 7 this morning (27/12/08).
