Shaggy is pleased following the official handing over of medical equipment to the Bustamante Hospital for Children (BHC) on Friday.

The ceremony involved the handing over of US$350,000 (J$30 million) worth of medical equipment, which was raised at the 2010 staging of the Shaggy and Friends benefit concert.

Shaggy tells Music News that he and his team are passionate about the cause.

Although the international reggae entertainer wasn't present, Shaggy was streamed live from Los Angeles where he was scheduled to appear on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

There was also the presentation of a cheque valued at $10,500US (J$903,000) from Chain of Hope.

The alleged driver of a BMW X6, who has been implicated in the shooting death of 17-year-old Khajeel Mais, is expected to appear on an identification parade early this week. The suspect, who has been in police custody since July 11, has not yet been charged. Police investigators last Wednesday attempted to question the suspect, but it is understood that he refused to answer any questions. The police have also reported that the suspect has refused to hand over, for inspection, the licensed glock pistol and ammunition that he owns. As a result, the police have warned that the suspect could be charged with failure to hand over his firearm and ammunition for inspection. Kingston College student Khajeel Mais, 17, was shot dead on the night of Friday, July 1, when the suspect, allegedly the driver of a BMW X6, reportedly opened fire on the taxi in which he was travelling. The incident happened after the taxi driver reportedly bumped into the SUV. The alleged driver fled the island a day after the shooting but returned 10 days later and surrendered to the police at the Norman Manley International Airport.

You hypocrites, oh how you claim to love 'consciousness', but to speak of the brutal killing of a youth on his way to a fete by a maniac, is an outrage to you. You would prefer to hear about Mya and Wayne Wonder. If Peter Tosh were alive, he would be crying out for justice for this innocent blood that was spilled. You damn crack head junkies! All you want is a spliff, some coke, a bottle of Hennessey or Guinness and the music, and you are just ready to go. You would prefer to see them posting one of you favourite artist pissing in some girl's mouth or another one making a coke deal. Yeah that would get your groove on. A lost generation! You reggae maniacs! You are a disgrace to be so offended to spend 2 minutes reading about the unjust demise of a child that could possibly have been yours! Truths and rights can and should be discussed on any site! You are all so drunk with the wine of fornication!

About IRIE FM

The station officially went on air on August 1, 1990. Reggae in the morning, Reggae in the evening, Reggae in the night was the cry. Critics said it was impossible to sustain a 24-hour Reggae music station. In fact, so strong was the impact, it proved that this format was something the Jamaican public yearned for. The 'little station that could' got all media houses in Jamaica to stand up and take note.
