Reggae Month Celebrations continue.

The festivities which began on Sunday January 29 with a tribute to Dennis Brown on Orange Street will run until the end of this month.

Reggae Month 2012 will feature at least one event per day. Weekly Events include programmes produced by JaRIA at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts which highlight the social backdrop and the genres of reggae. A series of five live concerts featuring Maroon Drumming, Gospel, Folk, Mento, Jazz and Classical; Ska and Rocksteady; Reggae, Rockers, Dub and Dub Poetry; Dancehall and Alternative are also planned.

The Emancipation Park comes alive later this evening with Classical, Jazz, Mento and Ska Music.

Reggae Month is under the theme, Reggae 50: Jamaica's Heart and Soul. The entire festival is geared towards celebrating 50 years of Jamaica's independence, and also, 50 years of modern Jamaican musical expressions.

About IRIE FM

The station officially went on air on August 1, 1990. Reggae in the morning, Reggae in the evening, Reggae in the night was the cry. Critics said it was impossible to sustain a 24-hour Reggae music station. In fact, so strong was the impact, it proved that this format was something the Jamaican public yearned for. The 'little station that could' got all media houses in Jamaica to stand up and take note.
