COPPER CAT R.I.P.

The music industry is in shock and mourning today after the vicious slaying of   artiste “Copper Cat”.  Copper Cat who came to fame as a Richie Stephens protégée was shot and killed.

The fatal shooting happen between 10.00 and 10.30 last night. 

Music News understands that Coppers Cat was gunned down front of the home of reggae artiste Richie Stephens in the Waterloo area. He died on the spot.

 

Unconfirmed reports say he was killed during an attempt to steal his Blackberry phone; However police say a motive for this gruesome killing has not yet been established.

Music News caught up with a devastated Richie Stephens who was too distraught to speak. Not only because it happened in front of his house but Copper Cat was his adopted Son.

 

 Copper Cat recorded several singles such as Mek it Stay featuring Atomic and recently, a hard-hitting single called Fren Murdera and Life Goes On last year.

 Numerous artistes and well wishers where present on at the crime scene, and expressed total disbelief at the senseless killing.

Copper’s most recent project was with Donavon Jermaine of penthouse Records. The single is scheduled to be released soon.       

Copper Cat was only twenty two years old. The entire Music News and IRIE FM family express condolences to his family and friends.

The station officially went on air on August 1, 1990. Reggae in the morning, Reggae in the evening, Reggae in the night was the cry. Critics said it was impossible to sustain a 24-hour Reggae music station. In fact, so strong was the impact, it proved that this format was something the Jamaican public yearned for. The 'little station that could' got all media houses in Jamaica to stand up and take note.
