Family, fans and reggae music lovers across the world are breathing a sigh of relief after International reggae entertainer Buju Banton was granted bail at a hearing in Florida today.

Music News understands that Buju was given bail at $250,000US under strict conditions. The judge also ordered that Buju Banton be placed under 24-hour surveillance with the costs being paid by the defence.

In order to prevent deportation, the international reggae entertainer will have to receive an immigration bond but US authorities may want to keep Buju in the US to face his new trial in December. On October 6, the judge heard arguments from the US prosecution as well as Buju’s lawyers and reserved his judgment citing that he needed time to access both arguments. Buju’s lawyer David Markus had filed the motion for a bail hearing on September 27, after federal judge, James Moody declared a mistrial after the 12-member jury was unable to reach a unanimous decision in Buju Banton’s high profile drug battle against the United States government. The judge says a new trial is to be held in December on a date to be announced. Buju Banton has been behind bars since December 10 of last year.
