Irwin High student accused of stabbing and killing his schoolmate, now in police custody

The male student of the St. James-based Irwin High School, who allegedly used a knife, to stab and kill his schoolmate, is now in police custody.

He is to be questioned in relation to the death of 15-year-old Raniel Plummer.

Commander for the St. James police division Superintendent Eron Samuels said the 14-year-old boy was handed over to the Granville police by his parents, earlier today.

Reports from the Montego Bay police are that yesterday, Plummer and the other teen boy were involved in a dispute, while at the school.

Further reports are that sometime later, Plummer was approached by the other boy, who was accompanied by a group of boys.

Plummer was attacked by the group and during the altercation, a knife was brought into play and Plummer was stabbed in his chest.

The wounded child was taken to hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Meantime, head of the Constabulary Force’s Communication Unit, Senior Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay told IRIE FM News that the police are working with stakeholders to address the issue of violence in schools.

This as the St. James incident comes amid tension in Kingston due to a feud involving some corporate area high schools.

A recent brawl left at least one student with stab wounds.
