Valerie Germain to be reinstated

Valerie Germain is to be reinstated come next Monday.

Mrs Germain, who is a scientific officer in the health ministry, was interdicted with half pay last November.

She was sent home under the previous Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) administration, and the People’s National Party (PNP) while in opposition, had promised to have her reinstated upon the PNP's return to government.

The action against Mrs. Germain followed her criticism of the government's handling of public sector pharmacists, and the under staffing of public sector pharmacies.

Mrs. Germain has confirmed to Irie F.M. news that she is to resume duties on May 14, with full pay.

She says she received an update from the Pharmaceutical Society of Jamaica, which she heads, that the reinstatement will be effective, Monday, May 14.

Meantime, Health Minister Dr. Fenton Ferguson says he is very happy with the decision of the PSC to reinstate Mrs. Germain.

Dr. Ferguson says the decision shows that democracy is alive and well, and that fair play and natural justice are at work.

About IRIE FM

The station officially went on air on August 1, 1990. Reggae in the morning, Reggae in the evening, Reggae in the night was the cry. Critics said it was impossible to sustain a 24-hour Reggae music station. In fact, so strong was the impact, it proved that this format was something the Jamaican public yearned for. The 'little station that could' got all media houses in Jamaica to stand up and take note.
