Two St. James Councillors upset with poor garbage collection by NSWMA
At least two St. James Parish Councillors are claiming that there has been poor garbage collection in their areas for months now.
Deputy Mayor of Montego Bay and Councillor for the Granville Division in the St. James Parish Council Michael Troupe says the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) has been very tardy in cleaning the parish.
Councillor Troupe says the garbage is not being collected on time.
He adds that over the past six months or so, each time the NSWMA makes its report to the monthly meeting of the Council, the report is always the same, saying all is not well but work is in progress.
Councillor Troupe says if there is a lack of equipment the NSWMA should say so.
He says the Authority should give details of the situation so that he can report to his constituents more than just saying work is in progress.
Meanwhile, Councillor for the Cambridge Division, Homer Davis has also complained about the lack of garbage collection.
He says there are widespread reports that over the past four months garbage has not been collected and it is causing a rat infestation.
During the meeting, it was suggested that the Local Government Minister be approached to request funding for the Western Parks and Markets.
The Western Jamaica arm of the NSWMA will then be able to employ enough people to get the job done.
