Two of 4 men held in St. Ann lottery scam operation handed over

Two of the 4 men arrested following an operation by the Lottery Scam Task Force in Discovery Bay, St. Ann, have been handed over to other police units.

The third man has been slapped with drug related charges, while the fourth is to be interviewed. 

Head of the Lottery Scam Task Force Superintendent Leon Clunis says two of the men were held on warrants and handed over to police colleagues in 2 other divisions.

Kenley Stevenson from Montego Bay, St. James was wanted for illegally abstracting electricity from a Jamaica Public Service (JPS) power line and absconding bail.

He was turned over to the Montego Bay police.

The other man, said to be from Kingston, was wanted for house breaking and larceny.

The man’s identity is being withheld pending further investigations.

This second man was turned over to the Kingston police.

In the meantime, the third man has been charged with possession of and dealing in ganja.

His identity is also being withheld.

And, the fourth man, who is alleged to be the proprietor of the club, is yet to be charged.

Superintendent Clunis says this forth detainee is to undergo a question and answer session, before police can determine what charges should be laid against him.

On the weekend, police carried out an operation at a club on the outskirts of Discovery Bay, where over 130 persons were held.

Police say many of those held were later found to be men dressed as women.

Most of the detainees were processed and released, while 4 men remained in custody.

The police say drugs, 15 motor vehicles, three laptop computers and a number of mobile phones were among items confiscated during the pre-dawn operation.
