The police say their operations over the last 24 hours have significantly disrupted gang activities in St. James.
Police say the operations, which were aimed at gangs, disrupted the activities of the notorious Stone Crusher Gang and a gang operating in the Mount Carey and Anchovy areas of the parish.
The police also say their successes have led to several threats on the lives of members of the force in St James.
In the police operations in St James in the last 24 hours, the first alleged gang member to be shot dead was 33-year-old Sheldon Hunter otherwise called “Killer”.
He was shot dead about 6:30 p.m. yesterday in an alleged gun battle at Meggie Top Salt Spring.
A 9 mm Taurus Pistol was reportedly recovered.
The police say Hunter is known to them as a top aide to the alleged leader of the Stone Crusher Gang, Eldon Calvert.
Calvert is in police custody on a number of charges including murder.
The second man killed is Christophe Calvin, otherwise called “Pinky”, is said to be a member of the top tier of the Stone Crusher Gang. He was fatally shot at Rhyne Park in St James about 5:45 this morning.
The police say Calvin was recently freed on four counts of murder committed in 2007.
The cops say witnesses did not turn up for the trial.
The cops claim he is a leading player in the lottery scam racket.
The third man to be fatally shot by the police is Nathaniel Hue.
The police say he is the leader of a gang that has been terrorizing the Mount Carey and Anchovy areas.
He was killed in an alleged gun battle last night.
A .38 revolver was allegedly seized.
According to St. James police, the gang led by Hue was responsible for at least ten murders in Mount Carey and Anchovy over the last 12 months.
Hue, the police claim, is well known in the parish as one of the largest and more influential players in the lottery scam.
The Bureau of Special Investigations (BSI) is investigating all three incidents.
Head of the St. James Police Superintendent, Maurice Robinson told IRIE FM News that the operations were intelligence driven.
In the meantime, Superintendent Robinson says the police are taking the threats on their lives seriously.
However, he states that law enforcers remain undaunted and will continue to pursue criminals.
