St. Elizabeth PC on revenue compliance drive

The St. Elizabeth Parish Council says it has stepped up efforts to increase revenue compliance among business entities in the parish.

In an interview with Irie FM News, Commercial Services Manager at the Council, Shane Nembhard says the initiative is a collaborative one with the Island Revenue Department and the police.

Mr. Nemnhard says over the past month, the initiative has targeted business operators who are delinquent with their trade license.

It also involved the removal of some illegal signs and billboards.

Mr. Nembhard adds that the Parish Council will be hosting several town hall meetings to help sensitize business operators about their tax obligations, especially in relation to property tax.

He adds that since the drive began, there has been some improvement in compliance among business operators.

About IRIE FM

The station officially went on air on August 1, 1990. Reggae in the morning, Reggae in the evening, Reggae in the night was the cry. Critics said it was impossible to sustain a 24-hour Reggae music station. In fact, so strong was the impact, it proved that this format was something the Jamaican public yearned for. The 'little station that could' got all media houses in Jamaica to stand up and take note.
