Police officer stabbed in St Andrew

A police constable was attacked and stabbed along University Crescent in St Andrew last night.

Police say a firearm belonging to the constable was also stolen.

Reports from the Papine police are that about 10:30 p.m., the policeman was on his way to visit a friend when two men one armed with a handgun and the other with a knife approached him and stabbed him.

The men then reportedly took the officer's firearm and escaped.

The officer was taken to hospital where he was admitted in stable condition.
