Patterson retains St. Margret’s Bay seat

The Jamaica Labour Party (LJP) candidate for the St. Margaret's Bay Division in Portland has been declared the winner, following a magisterial recount.

The JLP’s Floyd Patterson today (April 12) retained the division by 11 votes, over the PNP Vernon Hemmings.

Mr. Patterson polled 1,317 votes.

The results of the recount, which was conducted at the Port Antonio Court House, was released a short while ago.

Attorney-at-law, Charles Gangasingh, who represents Mr. Hemmings, told Irie FM News that his client intends to challenge the result further.

The station officially went on air on August 1, 1990. Reggae in the morning, Reggae in the evening, Reggae in the night was the cry. Critics said it was impossible to sustain a 24-hour Reggae music station. In fact, so strong was the impact, it proved that this format was something the Jamaican public yearned for. The 'little station that could' got all media houses in Jamaica to stand up and take note.
