Opposition JLP concerned about plan to move Ananda Alert System
The Opposition has expressed concern over government's decision to move the operations of the Ananda Alert System, from the Local Government Ministry, to the Child Development Agency (CDA).
Opposition Senator, Robert Montague moved a motion in the Upper House, aimed at ensuring that the Ananda Alert system does not lose its effectiveness in the move to the CDA.
Senator Robert Montague in moving the motion says the Parish Councils, play a critical role in the operations of the system, with Parish Disaster coordinators being responsible.
He describes the system as one of the best-practised projects of the commonwealth local government forum.
Senator Montague says he believes the system will not be successful when it is moved.
Meanwhile, Government Senator Sandrea Falconer disagreed with Senator Montague, saying the system was facing some challenges under the Local Government Ministry.
She says the move to the CDA will allow more focus to be placed on the system.
The motion brought by Senator Montague was approved by the Upper House after several amendments to the wording.
Leader of Government Business in the Senate, Senator A. J. Nicholson read the amended motion.
