Ministry promises probity of faulty bookmarkers

Disciplinary action is to be taken against the person responsible for superimposing the image of Education Minister Ronnie Thwaites on a picture of the Jamaican Flag which appeared on book markers.

Controversy erupted when the image of the education minister was placed on the Flag shown on the book markers that were being distributed to schools across the island.

The Opposition Jamaica Labour Party criticised what it described as a defacing of the Jamaican Flag.

The education ministry says the controversial book markers have been replaced with new ones which do not have his image.

Irie FM News caught up with the minister at a function in St. Ann today who says an investigation is to be launched into the matter surrounding the inappropriate book markers.

The education minister says he has denounced the bookmarkers bearing his image on the flag.

About IRIE FM

The station officially went on air on August 1, 1990. Reggae in the morning, Reggae in the evening, Reggae in the night was the cry. Critics said it was impossible to sustain a 24-hour Reggae music station. In fact, so strong was the impact, it proved that this format was something the Jamaican public yearned for. The 'little station that could' got all media houses in Jamaica to stand up and take note.
