Mayor of Black River extends deadline for street vendors
Mayor of Black River Everton Fisher has extended the June deadline he set for street vendors to start selling inside the Santa Cruz Market, in St Elizabeth.
Mayor fisher's decision to extend the deadline until the completion of works to upgrade the market, came after a tour of the facility yesterday (April 20).
During the tour, vendors complained of sluggish sales as a result of street vending, poor sanitation facilities and the urgent need to improve some sections of the market.
However, Mayor Fisher could not provide a specific time as to when the expected improvement work on the Santa Cruz Market will be completed.
Meanwhile, Mayor Fisher say he will be making representation to the Minister of Local Government Noel Arscott for funding to improve the other three Parish Council controlled markets in Lewisville, Black River and Junction.
