JIPO begins public education campaign
The Jamaica Intellectual Property Office (JIPO) began a series of public education campaigns today (April 23) as part of activities to mark intellectual property week, this week.
The events are aimed at helping Jamaicans better understand how to register their works and collect financial benefits, both locally and overseas.
State minister in the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Sharon Ffolks-Abrahams says Jamaica has the potential for a thriving film industry.
She states that Jamaica is a choice destination for film makers but there is a need to modernize legislation and to create new incentives to boost the industry.
Mrs. Ffolks-Abrahams says the creativity and innovation of Jamaicans will help the entrepreneurship that will build the economy.
Mrs. Ffolks-Abrahams also lauded the agency for work done in copyrighting and protecting intellectual property rights.
She was speaking at the launch ceremony for the public education campaign series at JIPO’s Kingston offices, today (April 23).
