IDT rules in favour of Jambisco employees

The Industrial Disputes Tribunal (IDT) has ruled in favour of some Jamaica Biscuit Company, Jambisco workers, resulting in them getting a salary increase.

The Union of Clerical, Administrative and Supervisory Employees (UCASE), which represents the workers, says the IDT ruled yesterday (June 25) that Jambisco should implement changes, under a job evaluation exercise, conducted six years ago.

Senior Negotiating Officer at UCASE, Robert Harris, explains that between 2005 and 2006 a job evaluation was done after Jambisco acquired Caribbean Brand.

Mr. Harris says the award will result in significant changes to the basic pay of workers, effective April 2011.

This means, that part of the payments will be made retroactively.

Mr. Harris says the Union and Jambisco will have to meet in the coming weeks, to discuss a payment plan.

About IRIE FM

The station officially went on air on August 1, 1990. Reggae in the morning, Reggae in the evening, Reggae in the night was the cry. Critics said it was impossible to sustain a 24-hour Reggae music station. In fact, so strong was the impact, it proved that this format was something the Jamaican public yearned for. The 'little station that could' got all media houses in Jamaica to stand up and take note.
