GSAT students to be placed in public secondary schools

All students who sat the Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT) will be placed in public schools this year.

The Education Ministry says, that change will be reflected in the placement of nearly 44,000 primary-level students, in secondary schools.

The GSAT placements will be announced about mid-day tomorrow (June 20).

In previous years, the government spent some $80,000 for each student it placed in privately-owned schools, due to the shortage of space in public institutions.

Education Minister Reverend Ronald Thwaites told Irie FM News that the Ministry has fewer GSAT students to place this year, when compared to previous ones.

He attributes the decline to the Alternative Secondary Transitional Education Programme (ASTEP).

He says all systems are in place for the timely distribution of the GSAT results, which will reveal secondary school placements for nearly 44,000 primary-level students.

About IRIE FM

The station officially went on air on August 1, 1990. Reggae in the morning, Reggae in the evening, Reggae in the night was the cry. Critics said it was impossible to sustain a 24-hour Reggae music station. In fact, so strong was the impact, it proved that this format was something the Jamaican public yearned for. The 'little station that could' got all media houses in Jamaica to stand up and take note.
