China Harbour to reduce dust nuisance in Hope Bay Portland

The National Works Agency (NWA) says contractor China Harbour will be taking steps to reduce the dust nuisance in Hope Bay Portland.

Residents protested this morning blocking the Hope Bay to Fruitful Vale Main Road over the problem saying they had not received any assistance from the authorities.

The NWA says main contractor China Harbour has sent out sprinkler vehicles to wet the affected roadway.

The dust nuisance resulted from marl on the road surface, used during rehabilitation works being conducted on the Hope Bay to Fruitful Vale Main Road.

The police cleared the blockages about 11 a.m., and say they will continue to monitor the situation as residents had threatened to block the road again tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for West Portland Daryl Vaz says the China Harbour has promised to continue addressing the problem.

Mr Vaz however noted that the overall problem stems from the delay in the resumption of rehabilitation work.

Work is expected to resume within another two weeks under the JEEP project

About IRIE FM

The station officially went on air on August 1, 1990. Reggae in the morning, Reggae in the evening, Reggae in the night was the cry. Critics said it was impossible to sustain a 24-hour Reggae music station. In fact, so strong was the impact, it proved that this format was something the Jamaican public yearned for. The 'little station that could' got all media houses in Jamaica to stand up and take note.
