Charred remains found in St James is female

The St James police are reporting that the burnt body found in a cane field on Monday is female.

However, police are yet to ascertain if the burnt body is that of missing Trinidadian teacher Michelle Coudray-Greaves.

Crime Chief for Area One Superintendent Derrick Champagnie told Irie FM News that investigators are continuing the post mortem examination.

Police are also processing DNA and dental information in their quest to identify the body which was burnt beyond recognition.

The body is believed to be that of Mrs Coudray Greaves who has been missing since earlier this month.

Friends of the missing teacher reportedly identified a bracelet and dental braces found on the body as being similar to those worn by the Trinidadian woman.

Her mother, Mayor of San Fernando in Trinidad, Marlene Coudray, arrived in Jamaica yesterday and submitted the dental records to the police.

DNA samples were taken from Mayor Coudray today and are being processed for a match with the burnt body. 

In the meantime, Superintendent Champangie says the police continue to question a man taken into custody on Tuesday in relation to the disappearance of Mrs Coudray-Greaves.

The man has not been charged.
