Address The Degradation Of Montego Bay

President of the Montego Bay Chamber Of Commerce and Industry, Davon Crump, wants the St. James Parish Council to set up a committee to address what he calls “the degradation” of Downtown Montego Bay.

He says he is willing to meet with mayor of Montego Bay, Glendon Harris to discuss the issues.

Mr. Crump notes that the chamber is also willing to forge a partnership with the city's political and civic leaders, to launch the renewal committee, with a view to improve the aesthetic of Montego Bay, including the regulation of parking and vending.

Speaking with IRIE FM News, he proposes that the Montego Bay Downtown Renewal Committee should constitute architects, landscapers, and city officials, to "chart a course forward" for Montego Bay.

He explained that with Jamaica celebrating 50 years of political independence, the proposed renewal committee, should focus on a redesign of the city centre, setting the stage for what it should look like in the next 50 years.

Mr. Crump adds that the time to act to save the resort city from deeper degradation, is now.
