Truckers who haul containers from the Kingston Freeport terminal have withdrawn their service to protest the turnaround time in moving containers from the terminal.
General Manager of Port Trailer Haulage Association Ricardo Valentine says for about a year now, it has been taking some two to four hours to move the containers. He states that this process usually lasts about 30 minutes.
He explains that truckers are paid per container and in the past have transported five to seven containers per day.
He says now this has gone down to one or two containers per day.
Mr Valentine says a number of meetings have been held to discuss the issues and come up with solutions. However he says despite assurances the situation remains the same.
