by March 15th, 2017

Dancehall artiste, Vybz Kartel, and his three co-accused have been granted leave to appeal their convictions and life sentences.

Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer along with Shawn Campbell also called Shawn Storm, Kahira Jones, and Andre St John, were sentenced in April 2014.

This, in relation to the August 2011 murder of Clive “Lizard’ Williams.

Defence attorney, Tom Tavares Finson, says the lawyers are in the process of securing a date for hearing of the appeal, before the end of this year.

A 3 member panel is expected to hear the matter in the court of appeal.

Mr. Tavares Finson says Kartel is pleased with today’s (Mar 15) development.

Kartel is appealing on the basis that there was a miscarriage of justice and lack of evidence at his trial.

It’s also reported, that the defence team has concerns with how the trial judge briefed the jury about the evidence presented to the court.

The leave to appeal was granted by Justice Frank Williams.
