Jamaica Boxing Association hosts pivotal coaching clinic to support Gloves Over Guns Futures Initiative
The Jamaica Boxing Association (JBA) took a significant step forward on Wednesday as it hosted an essential introductory coaching clinic at the Stanley Coach Gym in Kingston.
The clinic, led by certified personal trainer and boxing coach Aza Sturm from Canada, marked an important milestone in the JBA’s mission to expand its groundbreaking Gloves Over Guns Futures Initiative.
It was attended by 20 local coaches and provided foundational training aimed at equipping them with the necessary skills to support the growth of the initiative for which the long-term vision is to launch Jamaica’s first-ever high school boxing championship, providing structured and disciplined athletic programs that engage young people and channel their energy into sports.
The Gloves Over Guns Futures Initiative seeks to identify and nurture emerging boxing talent while simultaneously fostering positive change in communities across Jamaica.
The clinic also represents a key step in Jamaica’s Road to the 2028 Olympics, ensuring that coaches are properly registered and poised to participate in more advanced training later this year.
