This after they beat Bermuda by 18 runs in their rain reduced match at the Malton Cricket Club in Mississauga, Ontario.
Batting first the, Sagicor HPC after making a solid start, suffered a late innings collapse which saw them losing their last 8 wickets for 39 runs in just 6 overs to be dismissed for 171in 29.4 overs.
Left-handed opener Kieran Powell led the way with 46 in an opening partnership of 79 with Rajendra Chandrika who made 32.
Jamaican Nkrumah Bonner supported with 29 against Malachi Jones who took 4 wickets.
Bermuda in reply were restricted to 153 for 7 in 30 overs.
Skipper David Hemp topscored with 78, while Brandon Bess was the leading bowler with 2 for 20.
The Sagicor HPC will play their second match against Canada on Thursday at 9 am Jamaica time.</description>  <guid>http://iriefm.net/index.php/home/sports/4979</guid>    </item>    <item>    <title>Shelly-Ann Fraser escapes 2 year ban  (Sep 08 2010)</title>    <link>http://iriefm.net/index.php/home/sports/4978</link>    <description>Jamaicas World and Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser has escaped being banned for two years following her positive drug test earlier this year.
This as the IAAF Doping Review Board has confirmed their agreement with the Jamaican Tribunal dealing with the case that there were circumstances in the athletes case which may be exceptional and special hence a reduction in the two year sanction.
The Tribunal will now decide on the appropriate sanction to be imposed.
Meanwhile, former Holmwood Technical athlete Bobby-Gaye Wilkins has been slapped with a two year ban.
Wilkins was found to have an adverse analytical finding in relation to samples collected at the World Indoor Championships held in Doha, Qatar, March 12 this year.

The Reggae Boys playing their second game in three days fell behind from as early of the 4th minute through a Demar Philips own goal but Omar Cummings leveled things for Jamaica in the 30th minute with  a  stunning  effort   from  25  yards  out   as both teams took the break at 1-1.
Peru ranked 43 places above Jamaica in the World rankings however found the clincher in the 84th minute courtesy of substitute Jose Carlos Fernandez.
Meanwhile  the  game  got  off  to  a  late  start  and  in  fact  could  also  have  been  abandoned as  the  promoters  failed   to  carry  through  their  obligation  of  making  final  payment  on the USD $40,000 match  fee.
JFF  President  Captain  Horace  Burrell  after  threatening  to  withdraw  the  team  from  the  game  received  the  payment  through  head  of  delegation  Danny  Beckford  20  minutes  into  the  first  half  of  the  game.
The Reggae Boys next assignment is against Caribbean rivals Trinidad and Tobago at the office on October 10.

The  Reggae  Boys  fresh  from  their  1-nil  triumph  over  Costa  Rica  on Sunday  inside  the  National  stadium  are  expected  to  have  a  full  training  session  this  afternoon.
Ryan  Johnson  with  a  66th  minute  strike  did  the  trick  for  the  Reggae  Boys.
The result  extended Jamaicas  three  year  unbeaten  run  at the National Stadium  to  kick start  the  2014 World Cup Campaign.
Omar  Cummings  will  join the  squad  today  in  Fort Lauderdale  ---- Shavar  Thomas  is  the  other  player  added  to  the  squad  following  Sundays  encounter.
The  other  players  who  travelled  to  Fort  Lauderdale  this  morning  are  captain  Jermaine Taylor, Dicoy Williams, Richard Edwards, Adrian Reid, Eric Vernan, Andre Blake, Ryan Johnson, Omar Daley, Dane Richards, Demar Phillips, Jason Morrison, Luton Shelton, Nicholas Addlery, Lovel Palmer, Dwayne Miller, Kavin Bryan, Navian Boyd and  Keammar Daley.

This after both emerged unscathed from their semifinal encounters at the Ultimate Jerk Center in Discovery Bay.
South Star booked their spot in the final after cruising to a comfortable 105 run win over St. Ann team Mount Olivet.
Batting first, the Manchester team posted a massive 204 for 7 from their 20 overs with skipper Courtney Allen --- 82 and Courtney Francis --- 56 not out doing the bulk of the scoring against Desmond McNabb who took 3 for 32.
Mount Olivet in reply were bundled out for just 99 runs in 15.2 overs.
Earlier Orange Hill --- 155 for 8 booked their spot after a 2 wickets win over St. Catherine opponents Cheesefield who after being asked to bat made 154 for 5 from their 20 overs.
Adrian Thompson topscored with 40 for the winners, while national player Danza Hyatt stroked 77 in a losing cause for Cheesefield.
Both Orange Hill and South Stars will now turn their attentions to the September 12 final at Alpart in St. Elizabeth.

Kelly netted in the 18th and 35th minutes to give the former champions a 2-0 lead while Shavar Brown scored in the 54th for  Benfica who played the entire 2nd half with 10 players after Kevin Rattigan was sent off.
Elsewhere defending champions Harbour View suffered a shock 3-2 defeat to Humble Lion, while Nicholi Barrett, Deano Williams and Jerome Ecclestone were on target for Village United who moved to the top of the table on goal difference with a 3-0 win over Arnett Gardens.

This after he was beaten in 3 sets --- 7-5, 6-3, 6-love --- by British 4th seed Andy Murray in their rain delayed 2nd round match at the Arthur Ashe Court.
The unorthodox Brown wearing a sleeveless shirt and baggy shorts, provided Murray with some awkward moments in the opening set with his cavalier all-or-nothing approach, but was eventually outclassed when the Scotsman figured him out.
The result ended his quest to become the first Jamaican to reach the 3rd round of a Grand Slam event.
Murray in the meantime will now go on to meet Stanislas Eawrinka who beat Juan Ignacio Chela in 3 sets.
Other winners were Fernando Verdasco, David Ferrer, Mihkail Youzhny, David Nalbandian, and John Isner.

This after they suffered a 53-42 loss in Wednesdays opening game of the 2 tes NCB Sunshine Netball Series.
The English held a slight 13-10 advantage at the end of the 1st quarter, before unforced errors by the Jamaicans saw them falling to a 27-19 deficit at halftime.
Newcomer Jhaniele Fowler helped reduce the deficit to 10 points, but England still held on to take a 41-28 lead going into the 4th and final quarter.
Both teams will now turn their attentions to the 2nd and final game of the series which takes place tomorrow.

Brown achieved the feat after knocking off Spains Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo in 3 sets - 6-4, 7-6, 7-5 to win his first round encounter in the men singles competition at the U.S. Open at Flushing Meadows in New York.
The 26 year old ranked 113th in the world will now go on to meet British 4th seed Andy Murray who beat Lukas Lacko in 3 sets - 6-3,  6-2, 6-2.
The result however could be Browns lone Grand Slam win in Jamaican colors.
This as he is being courted by Great Britain to play on their Davis Cup team.
Brown however says he hasnt heard anything since Wimbledon.
Meanwhile, world number one Rafael Nadal began his campaign with a 7-6, 7-6, 6-3 win over Russias Teymuraz Gabashvili.
Other winners were Novak Djokovic, David Nalbandian, Giles Simon, David Ferrer, and Fernando Verdasco.

In their second head to head in less than a week the worlds two fastest men this year failed to spark any fireworks as Gay won the 100m in a meet record 9.92 seconds with Carter second in 10.07.
The American Mike Rodgers was third in 10.14 seconds ahead Michael Frater fourth in 10.17.
Diamond league winner Kaliese Spencer won the womens 400m hurdles stopping the clock at 54.23 seconds to put Sundays disappointment of hitting a hurdle and finishing down the track at the Rieti Grand Prix behind her.
Nickeisha Wilson clocked 55.55 seconds to finish third.
National record holder Dwight Thomas won the 110m hurdles clocking 13.40 seconds.
Kenia Sinclair topped the field in the womens 800m with her season best time of 1:58.59 seconds.
Shericka Williams with her 52.60 second clocking was only good for 4th in the womens 400m.
Delloreen Ennis-London 13.56 seconds was a 7th place finisher in the 100m hurdles.
The USAs Lolo Jones 12.87 won the event ahead of Canadas Perdita Felicien 12.88 seconds.
Former world champion Tricia Smith - 13.86m was 4th in the womens triple jump.
