The government says, it hopes to build more houses faster than the demand which exists, and quicker than the temptation for people to squat.
Prime Minister, Andrew Holness, says people squat because they don’t have access to affordable, planned developments.
He says, developing structured housing in areas which already have tested and proven water supply, transportation routes, security presence and hospitals, is better for all Jamaicans, and is cost efficient for the government.
He was addressing the ground-breaking ceremony for the villages of Colbeck Castle Phase One, and Two Housing Developments in Old Harbour, St Catherine, at the weekend.

The 5.4 billion dollar villages of Colbeck Castle Development, includes the construction of some 595 housing solutions.
It is slated for completion, in October 2018.
