CMO calls for PAHO to help prevent wastage of Covid vaccines
Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jacquiline Bisasor-Mckenzie has called on the Pan American Health Organization, PAHO, to intervene on the country’s behalf with the COVAX Facility, to prevent the wastage of vaccines.
This, as the CMO notes that Jamaica and other countries have limitations, in managing excess vaccine supplies and need better arrangements to suit their individual situations.
She made the call while addressing the 170th Session of the PAHO Executive Committee meeting, recently.
Dr. Bisasor Mckenzie noted that Jamaica intends to conduct a review to identify activities, to improve the ongoing Covid response within specific local contexts so it can prepare better for future threats.
Meantime, the CMO noted that Jamaica remains in a state of preparedness and response for new Covid surges.
She added that the ministry continues work to strengthen its primary health care system, and is committed to the implementation of new strategies to increase Covid vaccine take up.
