“It’s a good look!” “Can they beat the system?” are some of the chatter among industry players, following news that entertainers Vybz Kartel and Shawn Storm have been granted permission to appeal their life sentence.
Meanwhile, the legal team working on behalf of the men, question the judge’s 2014 decision to admit telephone evidence in the case.
But what does it mean that the men have been granted leave to appeal their convictions and life sentences?
In an exclusive interview with Music News, attorney at law, Bert Samuel who is representing dancehall deejay Shawn Storm, says it is good news as they are given the green light to make an appeal on two counts.
Mr. Samuels further explains that he along with the legal team are elated, enthused, and excited as they anticipate a day in court sometime close to the end of this year, or early 2018.
A three-member panel is expected to hear the matter in the court of appeal.
Dancehall deejays Vybz Kartel and Shawn Storm, along with two others were sentenced in April 2014, in relation to the August 2011 murder of Clive “Lizard’ Williams.
