Bush fires on the rise in St Ann

by April 13th, 2019

Bush fires continue to be a major problem for Fire-fighters in St Ann.

For March, nearly 50 % of the number of fires recorded was bush fires.

Assistant Superintendent of the St Ann Fire Department Richard Stephens said during March there were 93 genuine fire calls and of that total 43 were bush fires.

While delivering the fire report for last month during the recent monthly meeting of the St Ann Municipal Corporation he noted that there were 9 residential fires, 3 commercial buildings fires, 8 motor vehicles, 6 dumps, and 15 utility poles.

He is again warning residents to refrain from starting fires as this could lead to serious losses.

In the meantime, Assistant Superintendent Stephens said the Fire Prevention Arm of the Brigade continues its regular work to ensure that the parish is safe.

He added that two fire hydrants are being repaired.
